Swine Flu - Is it all bad?

The Swine Flu outbreak has turned the world upside down. Not to mention put a serious damper on holiday plans. This is a good example of one of those rare circumstantial incidences wherein having travel insurance comes in handy. But, what exactly is this H1N1 virus and how could it affect your travel plans?

The source of the outbreak is still for the most part unknown, cases were first reported in the U.S.A and a correlation was made between the former cases and an earlier outbreak of flu in Mexico earlier. The symptoms are mostly masked as a normal run-of-the-mill flu scenario. Flu strain symptoms: fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose and aching body muscles. However, patients with Swine Flu do also experience vomiting and diarrhoea.

So here is a typical scenario, you are at your destination, when these symptoms occur and you don’t have travel insurance...
You feel ill and need to be quarantined; you then have to stay in a foreign hospital longer than your actual trip’s duration. These expenses will all be incurred by you, not to mention the effects stress you feel, being in a foreign country.  With travel insurance these hospital bills would be covered, giving you complete peace of mind not to mention make the hospital stay a little less stressful ensuring you have a full recovery. So you feel peachy when you get home, without any nasty bill surprises.
