How can you select the best travel insurance Cover?
Understand what influences the price or premium
For South Africans, to select the best travel insurance policy with value for money it helps if you understand what influences the policy premiums. Our philosophy behind the polices we offer, is to account for varied risk profiles and reasons for travelling that people require, which in turn, influences the price of the premium and the cover required.
The cost and the need for Travel Insurance cover is largely influenced by 6 variables:
- Reason for travel (Business or Leisure)
- Your Age
- Length and number of trips (multi trips or a single trip).
- The country you are travelling to.
- Who is travelling – individual, group, or family.
- What cover and what level of cover is important for you.
- Tailor/upgrade your travel protection cover.
Our online Quotation and purchase facility is cleverly structured to gather information about the steps 1-7 but you may still have a choice of policies once you have completed the simple information we require.
Here are the 7 steps to guide you how to select the best travel insurance cover that suit your requirements at the best price using our online travel insurance quotation and purchasing facility.
1. Reason for travel
Business and leisure have different requirements and therefore different travel insurance premiums. For example, South African businesspeople may require liability insurance, whereas a South African leisure traveller may require insurance cover for sporting activities. You will therefore be asked to first choose your reason for travel such that your benefits reflect your requirements. Read more about Business cover.

2. Your Age
People over 70 have a different risk profile with higher premiums. However, we have tailored a travel insurance plan for seniors aged 70-80 and 81-85 and these polices give the best travel insurance cover for your age. Younger people aged 16- 35 have the option of our youth cover designed to suit their needs.

3. Length and Number of Trips
Our plans are priced according to the number of days that you travel. If you are frequent traveller you can select our Annual Multi-Trip policies protect an unlimited number of trips for one year, each trip consisting of a maximum duration of 90 days. This may work out cheaper than buying several single trip policies. What’s more, you can nip off at the drop of a hat knowing you’re covered.

4. Country or Region You are Traveling to
Some countries have more expensive health care than others and this affects the premium. For example, if you are traveling to Africa or Asia the health care is cheaper which is why our Africa, Asia, Indian Ocean and Middle East travel insurance gives better value for money. When you do a quote the following option of cover for different regions will be quoted depending on which country you select to travel to:
Africa, Asia, Indian Ocean and Middle East:
Worldwide
Inbound travel insurance: for tourists visiting South Africa
Schengen visa Cover: Schengen countries only (Schengen Visa)
Local travel insurance: (South Africans travelling in South Africa)
Note: Our Quotation facility will ask you where you are traveling and if you are going to more than one country you should select all the countries you are traveling to. this is important because some of our policies do not have cover for certain countries
5. Who is Traveling?
You will give you better pricing structures depending on who you are travelling with on exactly the same itinerary as below ranging from a family to a group as follows:
Individual – if you are traveling alone.
Couple – If you are travelling with a spouse or partner.
Family – if you are a mother and father with accompanying children on the same itinerary.
Single parent – If you are a single parent with accompanying children on the same itinerary.
